Meeting Minutes
Fr. Tim opened the meeting with a prayer.
Adoration at Prince of Peace: For approximately three weeks adoration hours have been reduced to 9-12 on Monday through Friday. This occurred at the suggestion of Julie Stinson, who had initiated adoration and was in charge of it. There were security issues about homeless people asking for money and talking to people who were trying to pray. Some people who were there for adoration felt uncomfortable. One suggestion was to ask Knights of Columbus to help staff adoration. Lawrence volunteered to talk to Mr. Gillespie, Grand Knight, to clarify the time committment. It seems that Julie may want to drop out. If so we thought a committee which should make phone calls and keep tabs on absenteeism would be best. A keypad on the door would allow adoration to continue at all hours. However it would put persons who were inside praying in the position of having their prayers disturbed and having to decide if the person wanting to come in was really there to adore. It would also stop the open church status where people passing by could come in to pray. It would turn it into adoration only for the people who signed up. Fr. Liguori suggested that the House of Prayer may be able to host adoration. Fr. Tim will talk to Connie Degler about this possibility.
Traveling Guadalupe Shrine: This will be in St. Augustine Jan 18-21. It is a replica, one of approximately four in the world, blessed at the original shrine. May Oliver is leading the March for Life on January 20 following the 1100 mass. A schedule of other events accompanying the showing of this miraculous missionary image is available at 824-2806.
Parish Conference: This will take place Jan 14-17. Christine and John have made all the arrangements. It costs $325 for the conference goers to attend. We have 154 people registered. Please call Anne Shea if you want to volunteer to help (3777013). Our priests, music director, President of Parish Council, liturgist, Matthew, Jason, Christine and John will attend. Liturgies are open to everyone. The dinner has been covered by donations. During this particular week, the children's Respect Life posters are normally displayed in the Cathedral. Father Tim will talk to May Oliver about a different time or venue to display the children's art work.
Stewardship: Dennis Kasten has left the parish and Al Poticny has assumed the leadership of the Stewardship Committee. If you know people who like to meet and greet please ask them to consider joining this committee.
March schedule: The date for the March Parish Council meeting would normally be March 11. Fr. Tim has been asked to help with parish reconciliation services elsewhere that evening. The March meeting therefore was cancelled. Our next meeting will be Feb 12.
We are moving forward on CPS renovation. The old St. Agnes will be used for the youth. Renovations may be needed.
St. Benedict's grant fell through two years in a row so nothing is happening toward restoring the old school. The roof is exposed and it would cost $150000 to get the roof dried in. The first grant from the state was used on architects. If the roof is dried in we would have a chance of getting another grant. It is fenced and posted but could be a liability is someone got injured at the site.
Bob Johnson said there will be a meeting to address homelessness on Jan 15 at the Galimore Center at 7 pm.
The meeting was closed by Tom with a prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Paula Fuller
